- PRIMARY FEATURES: Shimoda's Action X adventure outdoor camera backpacks have been to the peak of Mount Everest and to the farthest reaches of the globe. They are built to comfortably carry camera gear not just all day long, but for days at a time. Shimoda's fully modular Core Unit system ensures that creators never carry more weight or bulk than necessary and that the bag interior can be quickly adapted to camera systems from small to large. The height-adjustable harness and removable waist belt can be dialled-in to fit users from 5-feet (1.5M) tall all the way to 6'8" (1.8M) (when used with optional Booster Kit). Three Capture Clip mounting points allow a camera to be attached to the exterior of the pack; tripod/water bottle pockets on both sides of the pack can be deployed when needed; all fabrics and hardware are PFAS-free; water-repellent carbonate coating and included rain cover ensure protection in any weather. All bags come with Shimoda's 5-year warranty against manufacturer's defects.
- CAMERA/LAPTOP CAPACITY: When paired with the optional Medium DSLR Core Unit (sold separately), the X40 will fit up to a gripped mirrorless or DSLR camera with 4-6 lenses, up to an attached 70-200mm 2.8. The rear laptop sleeve will protect a laptop up to 16 inches (40 cm).
- ADJUSTABLE TORSO HEIGHT: The X40 has three height options with approximately 7 cm (2.7 in) of vertical adjustment. This means the same backpack can fit short or tall — male or female — torso heights, ensuring a custom fit for everyone. Those with taller or broader torsos can add our Booster Kit for greater range in torso fit. Female users can add the optional Women's Harness Straps for a more comfortable fit.
- CORE UNIT MODULAR CAMERA INSERT SYSTEM (Core Unit Not Included): The X40 utilizes Shimoda's DSLR Core Units, which are matched to the front-to-back depth of the 35/40/50L backpacks. Core Units provide shockproof protection for Mirrorless and DSLR cameras and lenses, and ensure a user never carries more padding and weight than necessary. The X40 will fit Core Units as small as the Small DSLR Core Unit for more compact camera kits, and it will fit up to the XL40 RST Core Unit to maximise the entire interior space for camera gear and fit an attached 180-600/200-600mm lens or an unattached 600mm 4.0. The X40 is also compatible with Shimoda's optional small, medium and large Top Loader camera bags for users who want an internal camera cube that can be carried separately from the backpack with a shoulder strap.
- EXPANDABLE ROLLTOP ACCESS: Rolltop access allows the pack to be adjusted to your gear needs while still maintaining a tight and compact fit. The rolltop can expand with a volume range of 7 litres. The top section also has an additional quick-access YKK SplashGuard Zip that makes getting at your gear extremely quick and easy, especially in foul weather.

When paired with the optional Medium DSLR Core Unit (sold separately), the Action X40 backpack will fit a gripped mirrorless or DSLR camera (up to 6.7 in or 17cm tall) with 3-5 lenses, up to an attached 70-200mm 2.8, and the rear laptop sleeve will protect a laptop up to 16 inches (40 cm). The X40 meets most international carry-on regulations. This 40 litre backpack can expand to 47 litres when needed by extending the 7-liter rolltop. It will fit Core Units as small as the XS25 Core Unit for more compact camera kits, and it will fit up to the XL40 RST Core Unit to maximise the entire interior space for camera gear and fit an attached 180-600/200-600mm lens, or an unattached 600mm 4.0. The X40 is also compatible with Shimoda's optional small, medium and large Top Loader camera bags for users who want an internal camera cube that can be carried separately from the backpack with a shoulder strap.
